Heather Cox Richardson

An American historian, author and blogger (pictured above) on Substack.com who publishes the daily blog and podcast called “Letters from an American” – a newsletter about the history behind today’s politics. She describes herself as “a history professor interested in the contrast between image and reality in American politics.” She says, “I believe in American democracy, despite its frequent failures.” Heather’s blog is available as a podcast on Apple Podcasts.

Joyce Vance

A former US District Attorney for Alabama who sees through Donald Trump’s illegal conduct and describes how his behavior endangers our Constitution and society of laws. Her blog on Substack.com is called “Civil Discourse“. She also co-hosts a podcast with Preet Bharara (former US Attorney for Manhattan who was fired for no good reason by Trump in 2017) called “Cafe Insider”.

Jennifer Rubin and Norm Eisen: The Contrarian

In January 2025, amidst the outrageous Trump transition, unabashed opinion columnist Jennifer Rubin quit the Washington Post and Norm Eisen (who was Barack Obama’s ‘ethics czar’) quit CNN. Instead, they formed a new group effort at Substack.com, called “The Contrarian.” Their motto: “Not Owned by Anybody”. Their aspiration is “unflinching journalism in defense of democracy.” Within a month, The Contrarian grew to 15 contributors (such as world renown Constitutional law scholar Laurence Tribe), plus 250,000 subscribers.

Our Favorite YouTube Channels

Meidas Touch Network

The fastest growing independent news network in the world. Growing faster than Fox. They cover breaking news, politics, law and more. They are “unapologetically pro-democracy. Because TRUTH is golden.” The headlines are sometimes overly sensational, but they are penetrating Trump’s vulnerabilities as fast as anyone else on YouTube.

MSNBC

All of your favorite news anchors and commentators – Rachel Maddow, Nicole Wallace, Joy Reid, Ari Melber, Chris Hayes, Lawrence O’Donnell – are on YouTube in boiled-down 5 to 8 minute segments.

Republican “Never Trumpers”: Lincoln Project and The Bulwark

Nobody gets more insight or more emotional twist into a one-minute video than “The Lincoln Project“. Nobody plants a voice into Donald Trump’s head like them. As they say: “The fight against Trumpism is just beginning. The Lincoln Project launched with a stated objective to ensure Trumpism failed alongside him. As we have seen, our fight against Trumpism is only beginning. We must combat these forces everywhere and at all times. Our democracy depends on it.”

The Bulwark, featuring Sarah Longwell, Tim Miller, Bill Kristol, Jonathan V. Last, Michael Steele, and George Conway has many videos on YouTube.

Robert Reich – Inequality Media

Most retired political-economics professors from Berkeley would wind down. Not Robert Reich. The experience he gained as President Clinton’s Secretary of Labor are on full display with Reich’s clear explanations about what’s wrong with Trump’s confused world view. And Reich’s sketches make his topic’s delightful. He says: We believe in the power of storytelling to inform and engage … to bring about change. He adds: “…how we understand a problem dictates what options are on the table to fix it. Our ultimate vision is an economy that works for everyone.
